Clinics & Services
Child health surveillance clinics are held by appointment on Thursday mornings from 11.00 at the Brambles surgery.
New babies have their eight week check and immunisations, while three-year-olds can have a health check if the parent or guardian thinks it is necessary.
These clinics offer parents the opportunity to discuss their child's health and progress with the doctor and/or health visitor.
All of the practice nurses are able to provide family planning services including pills, injection, implant, IUCDs and emergency contraception.
Please make an appointment with the practice nurse in the usual way.
In this practice we try to follow the Health Authority guidelines of a cervical smear test at least every five years (three-yearly for younger women).
For some women these are recommended more frequently. You will be recalled by letter, and we would advise you to make an appointment as soon as you receive this. If it is more than five years since you had a cervical smear please book an appointment through the treatment room reception. At the same time as your cervical smear test your doctor may wish to weigh you, measure your height, test your urine and examine your breasts. This is commonly known as a 'well woman check'.
Routine breast screening is available from the mobile unit or at the local breast screening unit. All women between 50 and 70 will be invited by letter every three years to attend for mammography. Women over 70 can telephone 0203 758 2024 for an appointment.
Health screening is provided at the surgery especially for those who have no apparent health problems. You will be asked about your medical history, family history, immunisations, diet, smoking and drinking habits. The nurse will weigh you, measure your height, check your blood pressure and test your urine. If appropriate she will offer advice, and if necessary will refer you to your doctor. You can make an appointment for a well person check by telephoning the surgery and explaining what you require. We also provide this service for all new patients over five years of age who are registering with the surgery. We encourage all patients to share responsibility for their health. Many diseases can be prevented by a healthy lifestyle, e.g. sensible eating and drinking, regular exercise and no smoking. We are happy to advise you.
The practice provides the following services:
Asthmatic patients should have regular checks. We offer advice and monitoring as well as access to specialist services. Asthma clinics are held most afternoons by appointment with the practice nurse.
Coronary Heart Disease
Patients at risk of coronary heart disease should have regular checks, and our nurses offer monitoring and advice. You will be called automatically for an annual review at the surgery; however, you should call the doctor or nurse immediately if you have any concerns.
CVD Risk Assessment
If you have hypertension and are aged between 40 and 74 years you may book an appointment with our practice nurse for a Cardiovascular Risk Assessment. This simple assessment will ascertain your risk of developing Coronary Heart Disease over a 10 year period.
Diabetic patients should have regular checks, which will be with their doctor, nurse or a joint appointment with them both. A specialist diabetic nursing team is also available for our patients. Please phone 01277 695241 between 09.00 and 15.30 Monday to Friday if you would like further information.
Annual diabetic retinal screening is now offered at Basildon and Brentwood Community Hospital. Staff there will contact patients direct with appointment details. Patients are invited automatically for an annual diabetic review. However, they should contact the surgery immediately if they have any concerns.
Minor surgical procedures can be arranged at the surgery after an initial consultation with your doctor. Examples include removal of cysts, warts, skin lumps and the injection of joints.
We are no longer offering ear irrigation, as it is not available on the NHS and no longer feasible; if you require this treatment you will need to arrange it privately.
