CERVICAL SMEARS In this
practice we try to follow the Health
Authority guidelines of a cervical
smear test at least every five years
(three-yearly for younger women).
For some women it is recommended
more frequently. You will be
recalled by letter and we would
advise you to make an appointment as
soon as you receive this. If it is
more than five years since you had a
cervical smear test please ask our
receptionist for an appointment. At
the same time as your cervical smear
test your doctor may wish to weigh
you, measure your height, test your
urine and examine your breasts. We
call this a well woman check.
BREAST SCREENING
Routine breast screening is
available from the mobile unit or at
the local breast screening unit. All
women between 50 and 70 will be
invited by letter every three years
to attend for mammography. Women
over 70 can telephone 01708 504823
for an appointment. HEALTH
SCREENING
Health Screening is provided at the
surgery especially for those who
have no apparent health problems.
You will be asked about your medical
history, family history,
immunisations, diet, smoking and
drinking habits. The nurse will
weigh you, measure your height,
check your blood pressure and test
your urine. If appropriate she will
offer advice and if necessary will
refer you to your doctor. You can
make an appointment for a well
person check by telephoning the
surgery and explaining what you
require. We also provide this
service for all new patients over
five years of age who are
registering with the surgery. We
encourage all patients to share
responsibility for their health.
Many diseases can be prevented by a
healthy lifestyle, eg sensible
eating and drinking, regular
exercise and no smoking. We are
happy to advise you. |
