Do you care for a relative,
friend or neighbour?
Dear Carers,
We
are writing to tell you about a new
initiative called ‘Who Cares?’ - a
project run by South Essex
Partnership Trust (SEPT) and South
West Essex, the Primary Care Trust.
We at the New Surgery realise how
important it is for carers to get
the information and support they
deserve and we are working with the
‘Who Cares?’ team to ensure that we
can achieve this. As part of the
team at this surgery we have
undergone training in Carer
Awareness and will be working with
an allocated Carer Recognition
Worker from the ‘Who Cares?’ project
to develop our knowledge of the
support available to carers in
signposting to support services and
information available.
As Carers Champions, we will keep
our colleagues up to date in order
for the practice to develop its
support for carers.
There is now a Carers Corner
dedicated to Carers which can be
found in our waiting area.
Alternatively ask for Lisa Elam and
Lorraine Kelly - your surgery Carers
Champions.
Warm Regards,
Lisa Elam

The New Surgery
Carers look after their family and
friends in need because they may
have a disability or are unable to
look after themselves without
support. The care they provide
is unpaid and often unacknowledged
by others. Caring may include:
- Help with personal care such
as washing and dressing
- Help with meal preparation
and taking medicines
- Transportation to shops,
doctors, hospital etc.
Carers may sometimes be
unwell or disabled themselves
and may need help with providing
care for others.
It is important for you to
receive the support you are
entitled to if you are a carer,
so please let us know!
Please identify yourself to one
of the reception staff who will
ensure that this is recorded on
your medical record.
If you are a carer you should
also ensure that you receive
your annual flu vaccination. Please help us to help
you!
